Crochet doll, or amigurumi, are not only adorable: they are also made with a lot of dedication and hours of work. For this reason, they deserve a little care so that they maintain their shape, color and texture for a long time.

Today I will explain some simple tips to care for them as they deserve:

1. Gentle cleaning

Amigurumi should not be washed like a normal piece of clothing.

If they only have a little dust, a soft brush or a damp cloth is enough.

If they need a deeper cleaning:

  • Fill a container with warm water and a little mild soap (such as that used for baby clothes).

  • Submerge the doll in it for a few minutes and wash it by hand, very carefully.

  • Do not rub it hard or wring it.

  • Rinse it with clean water and gently press with a towel to remove excess water.

Never put it in the washing machine or dryer, as it may deform or lose its filling.

2. Dry it well

After washing, let it dry outdoors, but without direct sunlight to prevent the colors from fading. Place it on a dry towel and turn it occasionally until the second one is finished. Once dry, you can fluff it a little with your hands to return it to its original shape.

3. Avoid dust and humidity

If you have a collection of dolls that you don't use often:

  • Store them in a breathable fabric box or bag.

  • Avoid plastic bags, as they can retain moisture.

  • If you live in a humid place, you can put a small sachet of lavender or silica gel in them to keep them dry and smelling good.

4. Check the seams from time to time

Over time or if the doll is very loved, a loose thread or broken seam may appear. Check it from time to time and, if necessary, make a few reinforcement stitches with thread of a similar color. This way you will prevent the damage from spreading and your doll will remain as good as new.

Caring is loving

Taking care of your crochet dolls is a way to prolong their history and keep their magic alive.
